One Year Later, oh and the T word
Okay, so I'm not a prolific blog writer. At this point even 'occasional' doesn't fit. But what a crazy time 3 hurricanes in a row was last year. Now the blue tarps on roofs seem to be pretty much gone - but it did take all year for that to happen. There are probably many houses like ours that still have some drywall work inside that needs to be done. And so it goes...
In retrospect, a year ago this week, we were reeling from the mess Charley had made of Florida. As we watched the start of hurricane season and no storms actually came near central Florida it was kind of a 'whew!' moment in a way.
So what else is new? From our latest letter I wrote: "Right now we are focused on doing one of the parables of Jesus as a short anime film. The immediate need for this is as an evangelistic ‘bridge’ video for a new short film strategy emerging in Europe. Europe is very saturated with media and films, but they love short films – especially youth and college students. They are also very much into Japanese style ‘anime’ animation. Using dialog from JESUS for this new anime, will mean it can very quickly be available in all the languages of Europe that JESUS is already translated into. Please pray for wisdom as we select the right parable and enter in to story and pre-production phases for this project."
Why all the anime stuff? Fodder for future blogs, but as Francis Schaeffer said:"Each generation of the church in each setting has the responsibility to communicate the gospel in understandable terms, considering the language and thought-forms of that setting." A whole new generation has arisen, a post-modern generation, a globally connected generation shaped by cultures that are increasingly no longer isolated but globally melding, globally competing, and in new ways globally in conflict. The gospel of Jesus Christ is still just as relevant; how we think and communicate is what has to adapt.
Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. Without me, no one can go to the Father." (John 14:6 - CEV). Finding Jesus is finding truth. We don't shape truth, truth shapes us. If truth is regarded as relative, you still must speak truth. But if truth is regarded as non-existent or unknowable, you have ground to plow before truth can be received; before truth can transform.
Let's talk of plowing next time. Until then, I'd love to hear from you or recieve your comments and feedback here. Let's keep in touch!
